Randen/Rote Beete im Rotwein – Beetroot in Red Wine

1 Mins read

A while ago I had these wonderful beetroots at a friend’s place. She cooked them in Port wine! They were so delicious! Soft and juicy with a hint of port wine, crazy good! But I did not want to use expensive port, so I cooked them in red wine. You must cook them nice and slow and for quite a while to get them delicious. I love them cooked this way!

Randen/Rote Beete im Rotwein

Für 4 Personen:
4 Randen/Rote Beete
200 ml Rotwein
Salz und Pfeffer
1 TL Zucker

For 4 Persons:
4 Beetroots
200 ml Red Wine
Salt and Pepper
1 tsp Sugar

Peel the beetroot and cut in half. Pour the wine into a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil and add the beetroot. Season with salt and pepper and add the sugar, to get the full aroma of the beetroot. Cover and slowly cook in the wine over low heat. You might need to add some water later. Turn the beetroot occasionally. After approximately 2,5 hours of simmering the beetroot should be soft and the wine will have thickened. Serve as a side dish to steak or chicken!
