Ham and Cheese Taquitos
Pane-Bistecca
Ham-and-cheese taquitos are quick and easy to make. You can actually fill them with just about anything—they’re delicious no matter how you make them!
Taquitos (a diminutive form of “tacos”) are a Mexican appetizer or snack. They’re made from tortillas—the smaller kind—and rolled up like a cigar with various fillings.
In Mexican restaurants, they are served filled with black beans or chicken. Guacamole or sour cream is served as a dip.
The modern definition of a taquito as a dish made from rolled tortillas was first given in 1929 in a book of stories about Mexicans in the United States aimed at a young audience, in which the dish was mentioned as a particularly popular offering from vendors at train stations. Crispy fried taquitos sold in Mexico are often called “tacos dorados” (“golden tacos”) or “flautas.” Typical toppings and sides include cabbage, crema (Mexican sour cream), guacamole, green or red chili salsa, and crumbled Mexican cheese such as queso fresco.
