Spanish Mushroom Tapas
Pane-bistecca
Spanish mushroom tapas are easy to make yourself. They taste of sun, sea, holidays… everything you love about summer!
Tapas are small snacks that you can get in any tapas bar or bodega in Spain. Tapas actually means “lid,” and they are often eaten standing up with a glass of wine.
It is said that King Alfonso X of Castile had to consume wine and small snacks between meals during an illness. After he recovered, he decreed that wine could only be served with a small snack.
However, it is also said that the origin of tapas can be traced back to the custom of covering alcoholic beverages with a lid; which were initially weighted down with olives to prevent them from being blown away, and over time the weighting methods became increasingly imaginative and artistic.
Alternatively, it is said that innkeepers in Spain used to place a slice of bread (tapa) on top of wine glasses to protect the precious drink from annoying flies. Over the years, this “lid” was further developed and decorated with an olive or anchovy.
Another story traces tapas back to small snacks that field workers ate between meals to bridge the gap between main meals. (from Wikipedia)
