Bei uns in Europa wird eine Messe gelesen, man dankt Gott fuer eine gute Ernte. Dabei werden Obst, Getreide und Gemuese ausgestellt, oder gar Erntekronen aus Getreide und Reben geflochten.<br \/>\nIn den USA ist Thanksgiving Day ein staatlicher Feiertag, der am vierten Donnerstag des Monats November gefeiert wird. Es ist das wichtigste Familienfest im Jahreskreis, an dem spezielle Speisen, die zurueck auf die ersten Pilgrims in 1621 datieren und die Ernte die damals zur Verfuegung stand, aufgetischt werden.<br \/>\nDa sich oft alle Generationen einer Familie versammeln und sie zum Teil \u00fcber alle Landesteile verstreut leben, herrscht auf Flugh\u00e4fen und Stra\u00dfen des Landes rund um das Fest weitaus mehr Verkehr als zu allen anderen Jahreszeiten.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0************<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Today is Thanksgiving in the USA and so my pecan pies are perfect for today!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Thanksgiving is celebrated differently in the US than in Europe. In Europe we celebrate a mass to thank God for the good and plentiful harvest. We decorate the church with some of the crops and fruits and sometimes make crowns from the grain or vine.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>In the US Thanksgiving is a national holiday. It\u2019s always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It is the most important family-based holiday, with families gathering for a feast of special dishes. The dishes go back to the first pilgrims in 1621 and their crops and harvest at that time.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>As often all generations of a family gather to celebrate, the roads, airports and trains are crowded and congested.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4441\" src=\"https:\/\/pane-bistecca.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/pek17-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" \/><br \/>\nFuer den Teig:<br \/>\n280 g Mehl<br \/>\n\u00bd TL Salz<br \/>\n120 g Butter<br \/>\n3-6 EL kaltes Wasser<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Das Mehl mit dem Salz vermischen, dann die in Stuecke geschnittene Butter zugeben und mit einem Messer zusammenschneiden. So entsteht eine broeckelige Masse. Nun einen Essloeffel Wasser zugeben und mischen, wieder einen Essloeffel Wasser zugeben und das nur solange machen, bis der Teig knetbar wird. Zu einem Ball formen und in Folie verpackt 30 Minuten im Kuehschrank lagern.<br \/>\nDanach 8 kleine Toertchenformen ausbuttern, mit dem duenn ausgewallten Teig belegen und den Boden mit einer Gabel mehrfach einstechen.<br \/>\nIm Ofen bei 200 C Grad ca 15 Minuten backen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Fuer die Fuellung:<br \/>\n200 g Pekannuesse, gehackt<br \/>\n180 g fluessiger Honig (eigentlich muesste es Maissirup sein, aber den kriegt man hier schlecht)<br \/>\n100 g brauner Zucker<br \/>\n1 TL Vanilla Extrakt<br \/>\n60 g Butter<br \/>\n\u00bc TL Salz<br \/>\n\u00bd TL Zimt<br \/>\n2 Eier<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Die Butter mit dem Zucker schmelzen, den Honig dazu mischen und leicht auskuehlen lassen. Dann das Vanilla Extract, Salz und Zimt dazu geben und am Schluss die Eier reinmischen. Ich habe nun die gehackten Nuesse dazugemischt und die Mischung dann in die vorgebackenen Toertchen gegeben. Die Toertchen im Ofen bei 180 C Grad 20-30 Minuten backen.<br \/>\nDie Toertchen koennen lauwarm oder kalt, mit Eis oder Sahne serviert werden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0************<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<em>For the dough:<\/em><br \/>\n<em>280 g Flour<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00bd tsp Salt<\/em><br \/>\n<em>120 g Butter<\/em><br \/>\n<em>3-6 tbsp cold Water<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Mix the flour with the salt, then add the cold butter cut into pieces. With a knife cut it into the flour until you have a crumbly mass. Now slowly add the cold water, 1 tablespoon at the time until the dough comes together. Form a ball and wrap into cling-foil. Let rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Grease 8 small pie dishes. Then roll the dough out and cut 8 discs, put them into the greased dishes and pinch the bottom with a fork.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Bake in the oven at 200 C for 15 minutes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u00a0For the Filling:<\/em><br \/>\n<em>200 g Pecan Nuts chopped<\/em><br \/>\n<em>180 g dark Corn Syrup (I used liquid Honey as we don\u2019t get corn syrup)<\/em><br \/>\n<em>100 g brown Sugar<\/em><br \/>\n<em>1 tsp Vanilla Extract<\/em><br \/>\n<em>60 g Butter<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00bc tsp Salt<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00bd tsp Cinnamon<\/em><br \/>\n<em>2 Eggs<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Melt the butter with the sugar, then add the honey (or syrup) and let cool slightly. Add the vanilla extract, salt and cinnamon and at the end the eggs. I then just mixed in the chopped nuts. Fill this into the baked pie dishes.
